‘ The shy one – short beaked echidna ’
Charcoal engraving on board
46 X 26 cm.
Since dinosaur times Australia’s incredible echidnas have roamed almost totally unchanged. They have evolved to be pretty much perfect at what they do and exist in total harmony with their wide range of ecosystems…. from snowy mountains to desert sands. These spikey little guys wander energetically around their chosen home range, peacefully harvesting and farming the ant colonies which form the majority of their food. When potential threats such as dingoes are detected by their extraordinary hearing, their wonderfully powerful little legs and tough claws dig them very quickly underground and out of harm’s way, with only their needle-sharp spines visible.
