Barking owls have noticeably brilliant yellow eyes that distinguish them from most other owls. They are fierce little hunters but their most endearing feature is their call which is remarkably like the high pitched double whuffing of a small dog. It is really very strange when at night in the bush you hear a small dog barking softly from the tree above you…. only to have the torch shine a light on the truth.
