Brown falcons are among my most favourite birds of prey.... generalist hunters rather than specialists like most of the falcon family. Feeding upon a wide variety of prey from small insects through to reptiles and rabbits they tend to be common where other falcons may be rare. They aren't flashy fliers but I admire them for their ability to adapt to changing circumstances. But truly I painted this guy because I just adore their big gentle eyes and love the soft blue trim around the eyes and beak. And ...flashy flier or not.... they are members of the Falcon family.... a house of avian royalty when all is said and done.
