Cattitude - African cheetahs
Charcoal engraving on board
121 x 121 cm Original SOLD
The inspiration for this work came from an experience I had a few years back in South Africa at the De Wildt Cheetah centre where great work is being done to educate people and hopefully prevent cheetahs vanishing from the African landscape as they have in most of their former range.
While cheetahs can look fierce the truth is they are fairly vulnerable to other predators and have taken to hunting only in daylight hours to avoid most of their threats like lions, hyenas and leopards who hunt predominantly at night. Cheetahs have great speed over a short distance but very poor night vision so their daylight adaptation is a good evolutionary trick.
