As a board member of the Koala Territory Foundation, I am able to focus my art in ways which might help protect koalas since they are in terrible trouble in many places down the East coast of Australia. KTF is striving to help protect habitat and raise awareness that habitat fragmentation and development are extremely serious threats to these extraordinary and unique creatures.
Recent catastrophic bushfires have inflicted a mortal blow on populations everywhere and on Kangaroo Island alone we lost around 42,000 koalas. As a disease-free population, they are of special value as many mainland populations remaining also suffer from chlamydia which is a dangerous issue for koalas. It can lead to blindness, serious urinary infections and complete infertility in this precious species, leaving survivors weak and extremely vulnerable.
If you think you might like to help our battling koalas, please go to the KTF website or find us in the links section of my Art for Conservation website. If you have any thoughts as to what we may do to help them please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. For my very small part, all profits raised from the sale of any of my koala artworks goes direct to KTF where our Not For Profit trust can do the most good.
The pastel artwork shown here depicts one of the surviving KI koalas. Hence the title 'out on a limb'.
