The locomotion of kangaroo is the most energy efficient of any land mammal on the planet. Kangaroos are impressive old-world animals whose unique usage of elastic energy in their limbs and body allows them to move at high speeds for long distances, making them models of efficiency in the animal kingdom. Increasing the hopping speed shows little increase in energy consumption so roos can easily sustain themselves for lengthy periods. Combined with their reduced need to drink means red kangaroos are ideally adapted to the dry inland of this ancient continent.
