Flinders Ranges Shingleback
Pastel on Supertooth paper
My subject matter depends on how I feel at any given time and since I had just returned from a lengthy field trip into the Flinders Ranges of South Australia I had a great deal of subject matter and the one which took my fancy was this sturdy little shingleback lizard. Shinglebacks are the largest of the blue tongued lizards and have a varied diet of vegetable and animal matter. They are mostly very docile but if you do decide to pick them up you had better keep your fingers clear of that mouth because as I have learned they can almost take your finger off with their massively powerful bite.
