In the dramatic mountains of Western China, I was granted the remarkable honour of spending time with a captive bred giant panda named Wei Wei. We travelled from the breeding centre at Wolong up into the wild mountains where we played in the bamboo and climbed trees together in what for me was possibly the greatest moment of my life so far. At the time there were less than 1200 giant pandas left on Earth although the numbers seem to have increased slightly in recent years due to fierce protection laws.
