Meerkats are highly social animals and take their obligations to the tribe very seriously indeed. Among their daily tasks are baby minding, burrow cleaning and sentry duty to watch for birds of prey and other threats. The sentry usually takes a high vantage point to survey the surrounding countryside in time to alert the clan in case of trouble.
