When the temperature climbs to well over 40 degrees and there is little shade to find Southern white rhinos have to turn to other strategies to deal with the energy sapping heat. In this case a senior mother rhino and her two offspring of varying ages have decided that mum needs the shade while they can cope by simply resting their heads on mum’s sturdy form. We watched them for hours and their close kinship was so very gentle and respectful to their mum it was a real treat to witness.
