Every year in Spring and early Summer I travel to spend time with a gannet colony on the coast of Victoria. I love these times and the chance to immerse myself in the daily life of these gloriously beautiful and graceful birds. They pair-bond for many years and are ‘equal responsibility’ birds with the male and female sharing all nesting and chick raising duties. At sunset and sunrise, their musical trilling calls pervade the rookery as these snowy white birds are transformed by the light and to me, they become as glowing, feathered angels.
